Shelter Projects – 2023
Now in its 12th year, the Syrian refugee crisis remains the world’s largest refugee and displacement crisis of our time. Since the Syrian conflict officially began in early 2011, families have suffered under a brutal conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands of people, torn the nation apart, forced about 13.5 million Syrians to leave their homes and seek shelter both inside and outside Syria’s borders, and set back the standard of living by decades.
Hundreds of thousands Syrian refugees have been living in temporary camps on the border with Turkey. These camps are made of makeshift tents and other temporary structures that can barely provide safe refuge under normal circumstances. However, in the past couple of years the region has been hit with extremely harsh winter conditions. Flooding and heavy snowfall have presented a serious risk to these refugees. Many have lost their lives inside their tents due to freezing conditions and for the lack of food and blankets. Recent earthquake also contributed to many more thousands of new refugees in northern Syria,
Swasia Charity Foundation has partnered with Social Development International (SDI), Turkish-based and licensed NGO, to build a an entire community (Ahl Alkhair Community) in Afreen area and to move refugees from tents into real homes.
This project is called “Ahl Alkhair Village”, a small community with about 216 apartments, a school, a Masjid, a health center, and a child-friendly playground.
Expected number of beneficiary families: 216 with about 1296 persons.
The cost for a single apartment is $5000, which covers everything including the interior finish.
Each apartment will be about 53 Sq. Meter.
This is a great opportunity for “Sadaqah Jariyah”. Your reward will be immeasurable insha’a Allah.
